Last week I started to write my blog and I just couldn’t. I started and stopped several times before I gave up.
It’s winter in my life right now. It’s that cold, dry dark time. I pray everyday that the Lord would gird me up. I pray that I won’t lose faith. I ask the Lord to keep me out of the pit of despair and discouragement. I’ve run out of wine in my life.
I’m Job, sitting on an ash heap, scratching my sores, wondering where God went. My prayers often feel like the heavens are brass and they go nowhere. I know God is there. I know He’s heard my prayers. It’s the waiting that’s the hard part.
I have no power over the situation. There’s nothing I can do. The only thing I can do is pray. I remember Peter when he jumped out of the boat to walk on water. He was fine until he took his eyes off Jesus, then he began to sink. I find myself taking my eyes off the Lord and that’s when I sink.
I tell myself God’s promises and that’s what gets me through. I remind myself that God HAS heard my prayers. I remind myself that God DOES love me. The enemy would love nothing more than to neutralize me. He’s a roaring lion seeking whom he can devour. I give the enemy victory when I wallow in doubt and despair. I have to hang onto hope.
My prayers have gone into golden bowls. God’s heard every one of them. God loves me and He knows. That thought gives me hope. That’s what I need is hope.
This song keeps ringing in my head.
1 My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Refrain:
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in ev’ry high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]
3 His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]
4 When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found,
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]
I hope this song encourages you, as its been encouraging me.
