Why does God have us wait? Why must we go through the waiting time? I think I have figured some of that out.
The waiting time is because God wants us. He wants us to know Him, to be close to Him. He tells us to have no other gods before Him. He tells us to worship Him and Him alone. To come taste and see that He is good. Don’t love someone or something else. They can’t give you what I can. God tells us He gave His life for us.
He loves us. He tells us He is good for us. He tells us our lives will be so much better if we draw close to Him. He says He came to give us life and life more abundantly. The waiting time gives God room to show us His goodness.
During the waiting time, He wants to show us His love. He gives us peace, peace beyond all understanding.
The waiting time is fellowship with God. It’s communion with Him. When we are in need, everything else fades away. We see Him more clearly. We are helpless, so we cling to Him. Because all the other things that have taken our attention have faded. We are sitting near Him, leaning in on Him. The waiting time gets our attention.
The waiting time allows God to prove to us that His word is true. We must come to terms with who God is. We change God in our minds, but God never changes. We must come to terms with who God really is. He never leaves us or forsakes us. Most often, in the waiting time, we don’t believe that. My first reaction was, He did leave me. Where did He go? But He has said He would never leave me or forsake me. So I can choose to believe the lie that He left, or believe the truth, that He never left. Every lie that enters my mind, I have to choose the truth. I have to remember what God says about Himself. Each time we are told to wait, we are slowly coming to terms with who God really is. For our finite minds, God is higher, greater, bigger, more powerful than we can ever imagine. So piece by piece, God slowly reveals Himself to the believer in the waiting time. I recall truths, He has said in His word. I can trust them. His truths are comfort to me.
God told us to rest. The waiting time is a call to be still. God says to be still and know that I am God. God is in the stillness. Just like Moses, God wasn’t in the wind or the storm, He was in the stillness. The waiting time is stillness. God wants time with all of us. Our lives get so busy and loud, it often leaves no room for God. The waiting time causes us to be still. The waiting time is a time of rest. It is a Sabbath in our lives.
As I draw near to God during this waiting time, God is faithful to His word and brings me comfort and peace. God IS good all the time.
